In Short:
We are currently looking for a variety of singers in a range of parts. If you would like to get involved please e-mail us some informtion about yourself to beelinetheatre@gmail.com or get in touch through Facebook /Twitter (@BeeLineTheatre).
More Information:
This is an unusual opportunity to work as a singer under the musical direction of Samuel Fernandez, an international concert pianist whom we are very lucky to have with us as he’s only based in Pembrokeshire until next summer, when he returns to France. We also a have a grant from the Millennium Stadium Charitable Trust with a spring 2012 deadline—another source of support it would be a pity to miss.
It’s also an opportunity to take part in a tour which includes Swansea as well as local venues, and if the show comes together as we intend, possibly even Aberystwyth, Bristol, and Manchester.
The following is a list of available parts in the upcoming Swarm Fever tour, there are no specific age requirements:
ABBIE
The heroine (soprano).
A great role, demanding both musically and dramatically, with several solos. She runs the gamut from childhood (as a grub), to falling in love with a drone (George) and wishing she was a queen, to accepting her role as a worker, losing George, and being fatally stung in a fight with wasps.
GEORGE
A drone (tenor).
The traditional romantic male lead, with some pleasing songs and one demanding chorus number. At first he’s attracted to Abbie, but then all his attention is on the New Queen. When she emerges and takes her mating flight, he’s the successful drone . . . but the successful drone always dies.
MELISSA
Worker (Contralto or non singing).
A worker bee from a foreign hive, a refugee from hive collapse syndrome. Contralto, or possibly even non-singing. She’s seen it all—after all she’s lived through a winter—thinks love is an illusion and a bee’s death is nothing. But when Abbie dies she’s distraught. A rewarding character part that’s fun to act.
THE CHORUS
Sopranos and altos.
Worker bees, many of whom have speaking parts as well, and some interesting if demanding songs . . . especially when they double as WASPS and sing the Wasp Chorus in 7/8 time.
THE DRONES
Baritones and basses.
They have two very enjoyable chorus numbers, together with George . . . and get to chase the New Queen.
